About VACCO Industries

VACCO Industries is a US manufacturer of specialty valves, filters, and advanced fluid control products for aerospace, defense, and commercial space applications. Founded around 1953 and headquartered in El Monte, California, VACCO is now a subsidiary of RBC Bearings Inc. and has built a long heritage supplying propulsion hardware for major space programs, including CubeSat propulsion systems for NASA/JPL's MarCO mission (the first CubeSats to fly to Mars), filtration systems for the InSight spacecraft, and components supporting NASA's Artemis program.

VACCO's product line spans latch/isolation valves, check and relief valves, thruster valves, fill-and-drain and cryogenic launch vehicle valves, pressure regulators, quick disconnects and couplings, and all-metal etched-disc and Wintec metal-mesh filters and propellant management devices (surface tension elements/PMDs). Its patented ChEMS (Chemically Etched Micro Systems) technology integrates valves, filters, sensors and thrusters into compact titanium micro-manifold modules for CubeSat and SmallSat propulsion feed systems.

VACCO hardware has flown on commercial communications satellites (Boeing HS601/HS702, Space Systems/Loral FS-1300, Mitsubishi Electric DS2000), GPS III, NASA's Curiosity/Mars Science Laboratory descent stage, the Space Shuttle and Space Launch System main propulsion systems, DARPA's Orbital Express, and ISS resupply vehicles including Cygnus, ATV and HTV. VACCO also supplies filtration and fluid components to naval and industrial customers, drawing on more than six decades of precision fluid-control manufacturing.

Milestones

  • 1953 VACCO Industries founded in California
  • 1961 Began producing flight-qualified etched disc propellant and pressurant filters
  • 1964 Introduced Wintec metal mesh filtration technology
  • 1988 Introduced the VACCO latch valve product family, now an industry standard
  • 2018 MarCO cold-gas micro-propulsion systems power first CubeSats to fly to Mars alongside NASA InSight
  • 2021 VACCO becomes a subsidiary of RBC Bearings Incorporated
