About

TURKSAT 6A is Turkiye’s first domestic communication satellite, developed through a collaborative effort between local industry and national research institutions. The ‘TURKSAT 6A Domestic Communication Satellite Development and Production’ contract was initiated under TUBITAK Presidency coordination for TURKSAT A.S. and signed on 15 December 2014, financed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, TURKSAT A.S., and TUBITAK. Within the project, Turkish Aerospace was responsible for development of the satellite’s Structural, Thermal, and Chemical Propulsion subsystems, mechanical ground support equipment, and cable design and production, and collaborated with TUBITAK Space on satellite data recovery, command and control software, and satellite assembly, integration and testing. AIT activities were carried out at the Space Systems Integration and Test Center (USET) established by Turkish Aerospace. TURKSAT 6A was launched on a Falcon 9 from Cape Canaveral and placed into a 35,786 km geostationary orbit, significantly enhancing Turkiye’s secure data communication capacity across Ku-Band transponders.
