About
The S710 is a radiation-tolerant communications PCI mezzanine card that combines IEEE-1394a FireWire high-speed serial bus capability with traditional RS-422 differential serial interfaces in a compact single-wide format. It provides three IEEE-1394a FireWire ports at 400 Mbps each with OHCI controller support, enabling high-bandwidth data transfer between spacecraft subsystems, alongside 12 RS-422 input and 12 RS-422 output channels for standard spacecraft serial communication.
Onboard FPGA logic controls the interface to external spacecraft sensors and devices, with configurable serial data encoding modes (NRZ-L, NRZ-M, BiPhase-L). A triple-voted algorithm is applied to input and output buffers to mitigate single event upsets in memory, providing enhanced data integrity. A full-featured IEEE-1394 software library is available for VxWorks integration.
The card interfaces via a 32-bit PCI 2.1 bus at 33.333 MHz, complies with IEEE 1101.2 conduction-cooling standards, and consumes less than 3.5 watts nominal. NASA GSFC 311-INST-001A Level-2 component qualification is available for flight programs.
