About
Beyond complete booster and core motor casings, Walchandnagar Industries (WIL) manufactures the supporting precision hardware for ISRO’s solid and liquid rocket motor stages, including nozzles, propellant tankages and end rings, used across the SLV-3, ASLV, PSLV and GSLV Mk II/Mk III programmes. This hardware demands the same aerospace-grade materials handling and process control as WIL’s main motor casings: 15CDV6 alloy steel, high-strength maraging steel, titanium alloys and aluminium alloys, worked through metal forming, metal joining, heat treatment, fabrication, precision machining and pressure testing under ISRO’s stringent quality specifications. WIL’s association with ISRO began in 1973 with motor cases for SLV-3, and the supply of ancillary motor hardware such as nozzles and end rings has continued in parallel with booster production ever since, supporting launches that placed ROHINI, SROSS, IRS and G-SAT satellites in orbit as well as the Chandrayaan-1 lunar mission and the Mangalyaan Mars Orbiter Mission. WIL maintains state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and quality systems dedicated to large, complex-geometry aerospace components at its Walchandnagar, Satara, Dharwad and Dahej sites.
