About
The Rackmount SUPERNOVA Satellite Simulator (RS3) is a low-cost, portable 2U rackmount unit hosting a satellite simulator electronics stack and a stripped-down version of Pumpkin’s flight-proven GUTS flight software. It is classified as Development Hardware with Flight Software. It is intended to serve as a development and test platform for general applications and for SUPERNOVA-based spacecraft bus stacks, simulating the various stack modules in hardware, with the spacecraft’s payload(s) connected to the stack via the RS3’s external interfaces. Additionally, up to three additional, compatible 104-pin modules with I2C, SPI, RS232 or GPIO interfaces to the bus stack can be installed inside the RS3.
In addition to functioning as a flatSat of sorts, the RS3 has been used by third parties in small satellite security and safety research.
The RS3 includes a non-flight version of Pumpkin’s GUTS flight software (FSW) (option /O1) at no charge. Additional-cost options are available to expand the scope of the RS3’s serial interfaces, to provide a 150W power supply to stand in for an EPSM1, and to include a GNSS receiver.
