About
This listing covers custom, body-mounted solar panels built using Pumpkin’s Modular Deployable Solar Array System (PMDSAS) technology and priced per individual solar cell. Since their debut in 2008, over 600 PMDSAS solar panels have flown with a 100% success rate on-orbit, spanning missions from LEO all the way to GTO. Pumpkin describes the panels as flight hardware, flight qualified, and space proven.
Customers can specify essentially any panel geometry, and Pumpkin will work to maximize available solar power while incorporating additional features such as temperature sensors, PRM (panel removal mechanism) features, connectors, and harnesses. Pumpkin’s proprietary PMDSAS construction methods are intended to produce an extremely robust panel able to withstand launch loads and vibration. Every panel undergoes a vacuum bakeout followed by a comprehensive irradiance test to verify proper operation before delivery.
Over the years, PMDSAS panels have migrated from triple-junction solar cells starting around 28% AM0 efficiency to cells now exceeding 32% AM0 efficiency, allowing higher power density on the same footprint.
