About

The GPSRM 1 utilizes a NovAtel OEM719-series high-performance 555-channel space-grade GNSS receiver along with two selectable orbit propagators (OPs) to provide accurate position, navigation and timing (PNT) information. Full access to the entire NovAtel OEM7 API is provided via a selectable 3.3V LVTTL serial interface, along with PPS and VARF outputs. It is Flight Hardware, Flight Qualified, and Space Proven.

The GNSS receiver utilized in the GPSRM 1 is NovAtel’s OEM719-GSN-LNN-TBN-H, with the following features/configuration: vibration resistance from the OEM719 family features; GPS constellation L1 (single frequency); Single Point + DGPS PNT; 20 Hz data output rate; base station corrections + measurements; and high-speed operation (600 m/s velocity limit removed, i.e. COCOM unlocked).

The GPSRM 1’s Vinti7 orbit propagator offers a self-contained means of estimating position and velocity. Using a past valid fix from the OEM719, it can compute a new solution in roughly 200 ms, at less than 20% of the power required to operate the OEM719, and can propagate position/velocity forwards and backwards in time. The GPSRM 1’s SGP4 OP requires TLEs from the ground. SupMCU provides telecommands and telemetry via SCPI over I2C, as well as both OPs. The OEM719’s microUSB port is available at all times, primarily for use with NovAtel Connect software during development and for OEM719 firmware updates.

The OEM719 line of software-defined GNSS receivers is compatible with multiple constellations (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Baidu, etc.) and frequencies (L1, L1+L2, etc.); the base configuration included with the GPSRM 1 is GPS L1 only, with GPS+GLONASS and L1+L2 among the most commonly requested upgrade configurations (factory options: (C) Constellation – GPS / GPS+GLONASS; (F) Frequency Bands – L1 / L1+L2). Customers can also re-flash the OEM719 firmware after purchase using additional-cost firmware upgrades from NovAtel via the GPSRM 1’s microUSB connector.

Each GPSRM Kit includes: 710-00908 Pumpkin GPSRM 1 GPS receiver module, 711-01013 Pumpkin USB Debug Adapter Kit, 709-01022 Pumpkin GPSRM 1 firmware (object format), and a 634-01014 USB 2.0 male-to-micro 5-pin male cable. The GPSRM 1 does not include a GPS antenna; a right-angle MCX connector on the antenna cable is required. This module is compatible with all CubeSats conforming to the CubeSat Kit Bus standard (104-pin connector); +5V (+5V_SYS) and +3.3Vdc (VCC_SYS) are required to power it.

This is an export-controlled GNSS receiver (ECCN 7A105); COCOM altitude and velocity limits have been removed, enabling the receiver to function at any altitude and velocity. Sale is unrestricted to US persons; purchasers outside the USA can buy this item subject to United States export laws, and Pumpkin (registered with the DDTC) includes the necessary paperwork at no additional charge. Flight heritage note (from Pumpkin’s product family, LMRST-Sat 3U mission referenced elsewhere on Pumpkin’s site for related structural hardware).
