About
Blue Whale 0.1 is the first vehicle in Perigee Aerospace’s Blue Whale launcher series, an educational sounding rocket that launched in December 2021 from Jeju, becoming South Korea’s first civilian liquid-propellant rocket. Standing 3.2 m tall with a 190 mm diameter and a launch mass of 52 kg, it uses a pressure-fed LOX/Ethanol propulsion system producing 1.76 kN of vacuum thrust. Blue Whale 0.1 was developed as an educational resource for engineers and students, and served as the foundational flight demonstration for Perigee’s liquid rocket engine and vehicle systems, paving the way for the larger Blue Whale 0.4 suborbital vehicle and the orbital Blue Whale 1 launch vehicle.
