About
BLUE 1S is Perigee Aerospace’s high-performance turbopump-fed main engine, used nine-across in the Blue Whale 1 first stage. It burns LOX/LNG (liquid methane) propellant using a gas generator open-cycle design that minimizes complexity and cost while maintaining reliability. BLUE 1S produces 34 kN of thrust at sea level (38 kN in vacuum), with a specific impulse of 324 s at sea level and 362 s in vacuum. The engine features an electroformed combustion chamber engineered for exceptional thermal performance and a turbopump-fed feed system delivering an outstanding thrust-to-weight ratio. Perigee manufactures BLUE 1S fully vertically integrated, producing its own turbopumps and combustion chambers in-house.
