About GHGSat

GHGSat was founded in 2011 in Montreal, Canada, by Stephane Germain with the ambition to take an active role in the growing call for action on climate change, recognizing that more accurate measurement of emissions would be required for climate initiatives to succeed. The company pioneered a patented high-resolution imaging spectrometer capable of detecting and quantifying methane and carbon dioxide emissions from individual industrial facilities from orbit - a capability no other commercial entity or national space agency has replicated to date.

GHGSat operates the world's largest commercial constellation dedicated to greenhouse gas monitoring, with 15+ satellites in orbit as of 2025, including GHGSat-C10 'Vanguard', the world's first commercial high-resolution CO2-detecting sensor. Its proprietary Wide-Angle Fabry-Perot (WAF-P) imaging interferometer, derived from the 1899 Fabry-Perot design and miniaturized for small satellites (approximately 20 x 30 x 40 cm), measures methane concentration at roughly 25m spatial resolution and can resolve emission sources up to 100 times smaller than other systems. The satellite sensor payloads are built by ABB in Canada and integrated onto satellite buses designed, built and operated by Spire Global.

Beyond its satellite constellation (DATA.SAT), GHGSat also operates an airborne sensing program (DATA.AIR) using a patented aircraft-mounted instrument (GHGSat-AV) for targeted, high-resolution emissions surveys, a Global Survey product that aggregates and analyzes third-party satellite emissions data, and an Emissions Analytics service delivering trend, hotspot, flare and prediction data layers through its SPECTRA client platform, built on ESRI GIS technology. GHGSat's data and analytics serve oil & gas, waste management, mining, government/regulatory and financial services clients around the world, supporting emissions monitoring, leak detection and repair (LDAR), and regulatory compliance and reporting.

Headquartered in Montreal with additional offices in Houston, Calgary, London and Ottawa, GHGSat employs 150+ people and has been recognized with numerous awards including Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies, the Global Cleantech 100, and TIME100 Most Influential Companies.
