About

The SSTL GEO Wheel was designed, developed and qualified in 2018 by SSTL under contract with prime contractor Airbus Defence and Space (ADS), with reviews held jointly with ADS and the European Space Agency. The first GEO flight wheels were launched in July 2021 on Eutelsat Quantum. It offers a 15-year design life in GEO orbit, fully integrated radiation-hard electronics, a hermetically sealed mechanism, both current and speed control modes, chassis or harness grounding, regenerated power return to the spacecraft bus, electrically isolated ON/OFF switching and RS485 communications.
