About
SR SAR is an orbital satellite constellation under development by SR Space, equipped with synthetic aperture radars (SAR) for all-weather monitoring of the Earth’s surface. SAR technology scans and models the landscape using a radio signal reflected from the Earth, providing phase and polarization information not available from optical satellite systems, and allows monitoring regardless of lighting or weather conditions.
The planned constellation will comprise 12 small satellites, enabling full coverage of the Northern Sea Route with a revisit time of less than 3 hours, plus continuous radar monitoring services worldwide. Target applications include flood and ice-cover monitoring, detection and control of water pollution, crop assessment and forest monitoring, land-use mapping and inventory, and disaster response support.
