About
The pqADSB-NG is a Next Generation PocketQube ADS-B Air Traffic Control receiver based on the freely available 1090ES squitters broadcast by aircraft. It combines an improved-sensitivity demodulator, a telemetry engine and a squitter counter with ASCII output over a serial UART channel, in a compact all-in-one solution that includes its own embedded antenna array with no deployable parts, removing deployment-failure risk. As a standalone dedicated RF-chain receiver rather than an SDR-based decoder, it draws only the power needed to monitor the ADS-B L-band 1090 MHz air-traffic signal. It decodes Mode-S 1090ES civil downlink formats DF11 and DF17 (56-bit and 112-bit extended squitters) with CRC filtering, packet counting and telemetry, achieving up to -106 dBm sensitivity (10^-2 BER), covering up to 1600 km slant range and aircraft speeds up to 75,000 fpm from LEO altitudes up to 500+ km. Power requirement is 2.7-3.6 V @ 75 mA (250 mW), with UART output at 230,400 bps-8-N-1 3V3-CMOS levels over a PicoBlade 1.25 mm 6-pin connector (power + data). The unit measures 50x50x12.5 mm, weighs 70 g, and is rated -40 to +85 degC. An Evaluation Kit (pqADSB-NG/EK) is available with an FTDI USB-to-serial cable, an evaluation board with TXD/RXD indicator LEDs, a wiring harness, standoffs and Windows demo software for bench integration.
