About
The piMAGGYRO is a Space-Friendly, non-deployable, tri-axial digital CubeSat magnetometer and gyroscope with an onboard telemetry engine, providing in-situ magnetic field measurements together with angular rate sensing at approximately 760 m spatial resolution. Bx, By, Bz, Bt and angular rates about X, Y, Z are provided at a 10 Hz update rate, together with unit temperature, input voltage and uptime sampled every 100 ms. The magnetic field range is +/-300,000 nT per axis (0-519,615 nT total field maximum) with 6 nT resolution and 35 nTrms noise on the total field, processed by a dedicated DSP routine; angular rate range is +/-250 deg/s with 1 deg/s resolution. It is suitable for geomagnetic field measurements and safety monitoring on free-flying satellites, docking systems, large booms, solar sails, solar wings or ADCS/propulsion-equipped satellites, with no deployable parts needed. Data is sent over UART at 115,200 bps in LVCMOS format, and the unit can raise OVERFLUX (80,000 nT exceeded), OVERRATE (100 deg/s exceeded on any axis) and ERROR alarms via GPIO within 25 ms. The electronics are housed in a non-magnetic Al-6061-T6 enclosure measuring 53x32x(+14,-2) mm and weighing 33 g, powered at 2.8-3.6 V (3.3 V nominal, 14 mA / 50 mW). Also offered as an Evaluation Kit (piMAGGYRO/EK) with an FTDI USB-to-serial cable, indicator LEDs, and Windows demo parsing software for bench integration work.
