About

The SPUTNIX power supply system consists of two modules: SXC-PSU-03, the power system controller unit, and SXC-BAT-03, the battery module. SXC-PSS-03 collects electric power from solar panels or an external charger, stores it in the battery, and distributes it among loads (satellite systems and payload). It supports up to 14 solar panels (typically SXC-SSE-03/SXC-SSS-03 or SXC-SGS-03/SXC-SGE-03), connected via 3 independent input channels. External battery charging via a 5V input is available on the PC/104 connector, traceable to a user connector on the satellite service panel. Solar panels are grouped into 3 input channels, one group per satellite axis; the PSU also supports solar panels with built-in electromagnetic coils via a single connector, with coil contacts traced to PC104, allowing coils on each axis to be connected in series to summarize their magnetic field. Charger units with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) support both GaAs and Si photo elements. The PSU has a built-in 5-channel output power switch with current/voltage protection and telemetry per channel; general telemetry is also available on CAN bus (battery condition, input power, temperature, fault status). Beyond the 5 built-in output channels there are 3 external enable signals driving an auxiliary power switch on the SXC-MB-04 carrier board, separately activating sensors, main computer, and sun sensor devices. Battery protections include thermal sensors and heaters (thermal calculations required per mission). An independent hardware watchdog circuit has a long-term period of 25 hours (configurable), resettable only by ground command, excluding software dead loops; there is also a short-term software watchdog as a function supervisor. Software reliability is increased with failsafe configuration memory access and a built-in bootloader supporting safe in-flight firmware updates. The battery module supports RBF switch connection with physical bus disconnection, precision voltage/temperature sensors, and current-limit protection with power bus switch to prevent battery damage; built-in battery heaters extend the operating temperature range.
