Backend Quantum Unit (BQU)
Plug-and-play quantum receiver module for retrofitting existing optical ground stations to receive quantum signals and integrate into a satellite QKD network with minimal modification.
Description
The Backend Quantum Unit (BQU) is SpeQtral's compact, plug-and-play quantum receiver module designed to retrofit existing Optical Ground Stations (OGS) for quantum key distribution without requiring a full system replacement. The BQU mounts at the rear of an OGS optical bench via a standard interface, or can be adapted to other telescope configurations using a custom interface mount designed by SpeQtral.
Its small form factor, low power consumption, and use of standard interfaces make it compatible with a wide variety of existing ground telescope infrastructure worldwide. Once integrated, the BQU enables the OGS to receive quantum optical signals from QKD satellites and feed the resulting keys into a quantum-secure network. The current production model is the BQU Gemini Enhanced. Targeted at network operators, national research networks, and government agencies seeking to upgrade existing ground infrastructure to support satellite QKD without replacing their full optical ground station.
