About
The Apogeo Space Cu-Be Antenna Element is a patented deployable antenna designed for CubeSat platforms. Manufactured from a-magnetic Copper-Beryllium alloy, it provides the hyper-elastic properties required to roll up compactly for integration and launch, then self-deploy in orbit using the antenna’s own stored elastic energy — without the need for torsional springs, shape memory alloys, or any additional deployment mechanisms.
The a-magnetic composition of the alloy significantly reduces the magnetic disturbances that conventional metallic antennas generate in orbit, which is critical for accurate attitude control in magnetically stabilized or magnetorquer-actuated satellites. Antennas can be manufactured to accommodate different frequency bands based on mission requirements, with optional tip-mass accessories that enable exploitation of the gravity gradient effect for passive AOCS attitude control.
The antenna element achieves TRL 9 (flight proven) and integrates directly with Apogeo Space’s Antenna Cage deployment mechanism. It is designed to the CubeSat standard for straightforward integration onto 1U through 6U platforms.
