About
TREVO is Alén Space’s flagship Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform, designed for high-performance and multi-application satellite communications. With TRL-9 flight heritage, TREVO has been validated in orbit as a reliable, reconfigurable radio system.
The key strength of TREVO is its modular architecture: users can configure the number of SoCs and transceivers to match their mission needs — from a minimal 1 SoC + 1 TRX configuration up to 2 SoC + 2 TRX and more. All SoCs are based on the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ family, combining ARM processing cores with FPGA fabric for flexible signal processing. The system runs embedded Linux and is compatible with GNURadio, enabling rapid application development using the industry-standard radio framework.
TREVO’s wideband transceivers cover 47 MHz–6.0 GHz (TX) and 70 MHz–6.0 GHz (RX), and the system supports pluggable RF frontends for UHF, VHF, and S-band operation. This enables a single TREVO unit to handle multiple frequency bands simultaneously.
Key capabilities include in-orbit reconfiguration (software updates without hardware changes), multi-application support (AIS, ADS-B, TT&C, payload comms in one unit), and the PC/104 form factor for easy integration with standard cubesat platforms. Developed at Alén Space, a spin-off of the University of Vigo with ISO 9001 certification.
