About

TOTEM is Alén Space’s compact Software Defined Radio designed for nanosatellites and cubesats. Powered by a Xilinx Zynq 7020 SoC (ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core + FPGA), TOTEM runs embedded Linux and supports GNURadio, making it straightforward to develop and update radio applications on the ground and reconfigure them in orbit.

With TRL-9 flight heritage from Alén Space satellite missions, TOTEM is a proven solution for small satellite TT&C and payload communications. It supports 2 TX and 3 RX channels across modular RF frontends covering UHF, VHF, and S-band frequencies.

The PC/104 form factor ensures plug-and-play integration with standard small satellite platforms, and TOTEM is cross-compatible with other Alén Space subsystems including DARA OBC. Key features include in-orbit reconfiguration (update radio software without hardware changes), multi-application capabilities, and a user-flexible architecture enabling a wide range of communication protocols and waveforms.
