Pixxel

Pixxel was founded in 2019 in Bengaluru, India, with the mission of building the world's highest-resolution hyperspectral satellite constellation for commercial Earth observation. Hyperspectral imaging captures data across hundreds of narrow spectral bands, revealing chemical and material composition information invisible to standard RGB or multispectral sensors — enabling applications from crop health diagnosis to mineral exploration and methane leak detection.

Pixxel's Firefly constellation of small satellites is designed to provide global hyperspectral coverage at resolutions suitable for commercial and government analytics applications. The company has launched multiple demonstration and commercial satellites, building toward a constellation capable of frequent global revisit for time-sensitive monitoring applications. Pixxel has secured contracts with commercial customers and government agencies including collaboration with the US National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) for hyperspectral defense and intelligence applications.

Pixxel's target markets span precision agriculture (crop stress and nutrient deficiency detection), mining and mineral exploration (surface composition mapping), environmental monitoring (methane and pollutant detection), and defense/intelligence applications requiring material identification beyond visual imagery. The company has raised significant venture funding and represents one of India's most prominent NewSpace startups, contributing to India's growing commercial space sector alongside ISRO's traditional government space program.
