About
ViaSat-3 is Viasat’s flagship geostationary broadband satellite constellation, designed to deliver more than 1 Terabit per second of network capacity per satellite — among the highest-throughput communications satellites ever built. Each ViaSat-3 satellite is designed to provide flexible, on-demand bandwidth allocation across its coverage region, dynamically directing capacity to areas of highest demand.
The constellation is planned as three regional satellites providing near-global coverage: one covering the Americas, one covering Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and one covering Asia-Pacific. This regional architecture, combined with the extreme per-satellite capacity, is designed to serve residential broadband subscribers, maritime vessels, commercial and business aviation in-flight connectivity, and enterprise customers requiring high-throughput connections in remote or underserved locations.
ViaSat-3’s high capacity per satellite reduces the cost per bit of delivered bandwidth compared to earlier-generation GEO satellites, positioning Viasat to compete with LEO broadband constellations on price while retaining GEO’s advantages of wide-area coverage from a single satellite and simpler ground terminal requirements for many use cases. The program integrates with Viasat’s broader network following the 2023 Inmarsat acquisition, combining GEO capacity with Inmarsat’s L-band and additional network assets for a more comprehensive multi-orbit connectivity offering.
