IOD-2

Startical's second in-orbit demonstrator satellite, intensifying real-time space-based VHF communications and ADS-B surveillance trials for aviation.

About

IOD-2 is Startical’s second demonstrator satellite. Startical specified and led the IOD-2 mission and its operations, while the engineering of the satellite systems and payload was carried out by Indra, with support from ENAIRE. Its payload includes a nearly 4-meter VHF antenna together with ADS-B capabilities.

IOD-2 launched on June 24, 2025 from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California (USA), aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-14 rideshare mission. With IOD-2 in orbit alongside IOD-1, Startical intensified its demonstration activities to showcase robust, real-time aeronautical communications and surveillance, running proof-of-concept operational trials across the South Atlantic corridor (Canary Islands, Azores-Santa Maria, Dakar Oceanic, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, and Brazil’s Atlantic region) in collaboration with air navigation service providers and airlines.
