SSBV CubeSat Sun Sensor
Ultra-small, low-power analogue sun sensor for CubeSats and nanosatellites.
About
The CubeSat Sun Sensor determines spacecraft body angles relative to the sun using a CMOS PSD detector behind a small pin-hole, achieving higher measurement accuracy than traditional photodiode cosine sensors while remaining extremely small and light to minimise demands on nano-spacecraft. The device outputs four analogue voltages dependent on the incident angle of sunlight in the horizontal and vertical directions; a supplied calibration algorithm computes the sun vector from these plus a reference voltage.
Applications include accurate sun-angle determination (six sensors achieve full sky coverage), use with a magnetometer for simple attitude control, safe-mode sensing on gyro/star-mapper systems, and high-performance CubeSat ACS.
