JUPITER Satellite Broadband System

The JUPITER system is Hughes Network Systems’ high-throughput geostationary satellite broadband platform, underpinning the company’s HughesNet consumer internet service and enterprise VSAT network offerings. Successive JUPITER-generation satellites have progressively increased per-satellite capacity, enabling faster consumer broadband speeds and more cost-effective enterprise network deployment across the Americas and other served regions.

The JUPITER platform combines Hughes-manufactured satellite payload technology with proprietary ground system hardware including satellite modems, gateways, and network management software — providing Hughes with full vertical integration across the broadband delivery chain. This integration allows Hughes to optimize the complete network end-to-end, from spacecraft capacity allocation through ground terminal signal processing.

Hughes has increasingly complemented its GEO JUPITER infrastructure with multi-orbit connectivity partnerships, integrating LEO constellation capacity to offer lower-latency options alongside traditional GEO broadband for latency-sensitive applications. Enterprise customers use Hughes VSAT networks built on JUPITER infrastructure for distributed retail locations, banking networks, energy and utility field sites, and government facilities requiring reliable connectivity independent of terrestrial infrastructure availability.
