About

Atlas is a family of ground-based high-energy laser space control assets developed by Electro Optic Systems, unveiled at the International Astronautical Congress 2025 in Sydney. Built on EOS’s four decades of experience in space domain awareness and satellite laser ranging technology, Atlas combines world-leading telescope and dome designs with automated beam director systems to detect, track and characterise on-orbit objects in real time, including faint or hard-to-find satellites and debris, during both day and night. The system provides scalable, adjustable laser power levels that allow operators to tailor effects from passive deep-space surveillance and deterrence through to active space engagement, protecting friendly satellites from threats such as jamming, dazzling and physical interference. Atlas is offered in fixed, mobile and relocatable configurations for global deployment. It integrates with EOS’s broader SDA network and mission control software, supporting conjunction assessment, object characterisation, and maneuver detection. Atlas builds directly on EOS’s long-running satellite laser ranging heritage, including its Mount Stromlo (ACT) and Learmonth (Western Australia) autonomous observatory facilities, which have performed satellite and debris laser ranging for over two decades.
