About

BADGER (Broad Area Deployable Ground terminal enabling Resilient communication) is AeroVironment’s flagship space-domain ground system, packaged in a deployable 20-foot ISO container for rapid field deployment. It is a modular, reconfigurable, large-form-factor digital phased array built for complex SATCOM, telemetry, and electronic warfare missions, using Multi-band/beam Software Defined Antenna technology with proprietary digital beamforming. Key capabilities include Broad Area Automated Acquisition, Integrated Complex Mono-pulse Tracking, and Frequency Agile Operations, enabling simultaneous support of multiple missions across L/S/C-Band frequencies with a distributed 2-kilowatt high-power amplifier. BADGER can track and communicate with satellites across GEO, MEO, and LEO orbital regimes with a ±60 degree scan angle, supporting 4 simultaneous transmit beams and 12 simultaneous receive beams. It is designed for the U.S. Space Force and allied militaries to maintain resilient command-and-control and communications links with satellites in contested and congested orbital environments. BADGER underpinned AeroVironment’s role in the Space Force’s Satellite Communication Augmentation Resource program; the company received a firm-fixed-price contract option in 2025 for delivery of two BADGER phased array systems.
