Haven-1 Commercial Space Station
First commercial single-module space station designed for independent crewed operations — launches on Falcon 9, crew delivered via SpaceX Crew Dragon, precursor to artificial-gravity station roadmap.
Description
Haven-1 is Vast Space's first commercial space station, designed to be the world's first independently operated crewed commercial space station, launching without reliance on government-led station programs. The single-module station is engineered for compatibility with SpaceX's Falcon 9 launch vehicle and Crew Dragon spacecraft, leveraging proven commercial launch and crew transportation infrastructure to accelerate the station's path to operational status.
Haven-1 provides habitation volume, life support systems, research payload accommodations, and docking capability for visiting crew missions. The station is designed to host private astronaut missions, national space agency astronauts from countries without independent human spaceflight programs, and commercial research and manufacturing customers seeking access to microgravity conditions.
Haven-1 serves as the technology and operations foundation for Vast's longer-term roadmap toward larger, rotating space stations providing artificial gravity through centripetal force — a capability that addresses the long-duration bone density loss, muscle atrophy, and other physiological effects of sustained microgravity exposure that limit current crew mission durations. Vast's approach targets both the near-term commercial LEO destination market emerging as the ISS approaches retirement and the longer-term vision of gravity-providing infrastructure for extended human presence in space.
