About Tamkang University
Tamkang University is a comprehensive private university founded in 1950 in Tamsui, New Taipei City, Taiwan, with over 28,000 students. It is one of Taiwan's most prestigious private institutions, housing the Institute of Aerospace Engineering within the College of Engineering — one of Taiwan's dedicated aerospace education programmes.
Tamkang University's aerospace faculty have contributed to Taiwan's national satellite programmes, including the FORMOSAT (formerly ROCSAT) series developed in collaboration with the National Space Organization (NSPO, now TASA). Faculty members have participated in mission planning, ground system operations, and Earth observation data analysis for Taiwan's operational satellite fleet. The Institute also runs student satellite design projects and sounding rocket experiments in partnership with NSPO and industry.
The university's campus in Tamsui overlooks the Taiwan Strait and is notable for its distinctive mock maritime castle architecture. Tamkang maintains strong alumni networks in Taiwanese aerospace and defence industries, including AIDC (Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation) and CSIST (Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology).
