Skygate Technologies

Skygate Technologies Inc. is a Japanese satellite ground station company founded in February 2020 in Tokyo, developing cloud-native ground station infrastructure optimized for low Earth orbit satellite operations. The company's Skygate platform is Japan's first entirely cloud-based ground station system, supporting data rates exceeding 2 Gbps using software-defined radio and high-speed wireless technology, and integrating natively with major cloud providers including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform. This cloud-first architecture enables Earth observation satellite operators to receive, store, and process downlinked data at scale without investing in and operating dedicated ground station hardware. Skygate Technologies targets Earth observation companies as its primary customers, providing scalable and affordable ground station capacity as a service. The company raised seed funding from Keio Innovation Initiative in September 2020 and subsequently raised Series A funding from investors including Keio Innovation Initiative, Mizuho Capital, Genesia Ventures, JAFCO, and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital. Via Satellite named Skygate Technologies one of five Japanese space startups to watch.
