Sateliot

Sateliot was founded in 2019 in Barcelona, Spain, with the mission of building the world's first satellite constellation operating the 5G NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) standard in low Earth orbit. Unlike proprietary satellite IoT protocols, Sateliot uses the 3GPP 5G standard for direct-to-satellite connectivity, enabling commercial off-the-shelf NB-IoT modules to connect directly to its satellites without firmware changes — dramatically reducing the cost of global IoT deployment.

Satelio's constellation provides 5G NB-IoT service in the licensed spectrum (800 MHz band) from LEO, extending terrestrial 5G mobile network coverage to maritime, remote, and rural areas where MNO infrastructure is economically unviable. The company's service is designed to be transparent to existing IoT devices — sensors, trackers, meters, and actuators that already use standard NB-IoT modules can gain global satellite connectivity without hardware replacement.

Target markets include maritime logistics (container and vessel tracking beyond cellular), agriculture (remote soil sensors and irrigation controls), utilities (smart metering in rural areas), transportation, and industrial IoT applications requiring reliable connectivity from remote locations. Sateliot has signed agreements with multiple mobile network operators and IoT platform providers to integrate satellite connectivity as an additional access tier within existing network infrastructure.
