Rakuten Mobile, Inc. is a Japanese mobile network operator and the telecommunications subsidiary of Rakuten Group, Inc., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company built Japan's first fully virtualised (cloud-native) 4G/5G mobile network and is a strategic investor and partner in AST SpaceMobile, the US satellite broadband company developing a direct-to-cell LEO satellite constellation designed to provide unmodified smartphone connectivity from orbit. Through its partnership with AST SpaceMobile and satellite communications investments, Rakuten Mobile contributes to the commercial space connectivity sector, pursuing space-based mobile broadband as a complement to its terrestrial 5G Rakuten Communications Platform. Rakuten Mobile serves consumer, enterprise, and government mobile customers in Japan and internationally.
