About Planet Labs PBC

Planet Labs PBC was founded in 2010 by former NASA scientists Will Marshall, Robbie Schingler, and Chris Boshuizen with the mission to image the entire surface of Earth every day and make the data available for positive impact. The company launched its first satellites in 2013 and has since grown into one of the world's largest commercial Earth observation operators, with a constellation of more than 200 active satellites across multiple platforms including Dove, SkySat, and Pelican.

The Dove constellation — composed of 3U CubeSats — provides daily global coverage at approximately 3.7 meter ground resolution, enabling monitoring of land use change, agricultural productivity, deforestation, and disaster impacts at planetary scale. SkySat provides higher resolution imagery at 50 cm GSD with tasking capability for defense, infrastructure, and intelligence applications. The Pelican generation, beginning deployment in 2023–2024, dramatically improves collection capacity and revisit rates with advanced optics and onboard processing.

Planet's Planet Platform analytics layer allows customers to query Earth observations through APIs and dashboards rather than handling raw imagery directly — enabling applications in precision agriculture, financial analytics (tracking commodity flows, port activity, and industrial sites), environmental monitoring, and national security. The company went public on NYSE via SPAC merger in December 2021 and serves customers across commercial, government, and nonprofit sectors in more than 40 countries.
