Orbital Arc Corporation is a US-based propulsion technology startup headquartered in Austin, Texas, developing the RIOT Drive (Relativistic Ion Thrust Drive) — a novel field effect ionization propulsion system invented by founder Jonathan Huffman. The RIOT Drive uses field effect ionization to generate and accelerate ions directly without a containment structure, potentially enabling ion thrusters that scale efficiently with available power to achieve far greater specific impulse and thrust than conventional electric propulsion.
