OQ Technology is a Luxembourg-based satellite telecommunications company founded in 2016 by Omar Qaise, a former SES engineer, to deliver 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) IoT connectivity through a constellation of LEO nanosatellites. The company operates as the world's first global satellite 5G IoT operator, providing direct-to-device (D2D) cellular coverage for industrial IoT and machine-to-machine applications in remote and rural areas beyond the reach of terrestrial mobile networks. OQ Technology launched its first satellite, Tiger-1, in February 2018 aboard a Chinese Long March 2D rocket, and had seven satellites in orbit as of 2023. The company secured a commercial contract with Saudi Aramco worth approximately €1 million for IoT monitoring of remote oil and gas infrastructure, and has received grants and equity from the Luxembourg Government and the Luxembourg Space Agency.
