NIGCOMSAT Ltd

Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT Ltd.) is Nigeria's national satellite communications company, established in 2005 by the Nigerian government to develop and operate Nigeria's sovereign satellite communications infrastructure. NIGCOMSAT owns and operates NigComSat-1R, a geostationary multi-band communications satellite launched by China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) on a Long March 3B rocket in December 2011, serving as a replacement for the failed NigComSat-1 satellite (2007). The satellite provides C-band, Ku-band, Ka-band, and L-band capacity across Nigeria, Africa, and parts of Europe and Asia, supporting Direct-to-Home (DTH) broadcasting, broadband internet, national government communications, telemedicine, distance education, and enterprise VSAT services. NIGCOMSAT serves as a key enabler for Nigeria's digital economy and the Nigerian government's ambition to achieve communications sovereignty and bridge the digital divide across Africa's most populous nation.
