NewOrbit Space

NewOrbit Space is a UK-based space technology startup founded in 2021 by Anatolii Papulov and Ruslan Rakhimov, headquartered in Reading, Berkshire, developing satellites specifically designed for very low Earth orbit (VLEO) at altitudes of 200–300 kilometres. This altitude band, largely unexploited for 60 years due to aerodynamic drag and atomic oxygen degradation, offers dramatically higher ground resolution for Earth observation and lower communication latency at significantly lower manufacturing cost compared to conventional LEO satellites. NewOrbit is developing proprietary air-breathing electric propulsion based on gridded ion thrusters, alongside radiation-tolerant electronics, thermal management systems, and novel structural materials engineered to survive the VLEO environment for up to five years. In June 2026, the company raised a $18.5 million Series A led by Voyager Ventures, with participation from Atlantic VC, Lifeline Ventures, and other investors. NewOrbit plans its first demonstration mission in 2028, targeting commercial services for customers requiring ultra-high-resolution satellite imagery.
