About Mahia Peninsula Launch Complex (LC-1)
The Mahia Peninsula Launch Complex, officially designated Launch Complex 1 (LC-1), is Rocket Lab's primary orbital launch site located on the Māhia Peninsula of the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand's North Island. Opened in September 2016 and conducting its first orbital launch in January 2018, LC-1 is the world's first private orbital launch complex, licensed by New Zealand under the Outer Space and High-altitude Activities Act 2017. The site features two launch pads (LC-1A and LC-1B) from which Rocket Lab's Electron small satellite launch vehicle launches small satellites to sun-synchronous and low Earth orbits. Electron rockets launched from LC-1 carry commercial, scientific, and government small satellite payloads for customers worldwide. The site hosts mission control, integration facilities, and a dedicated pad for horizontal rocket integration and transport. Rocket Lab has also received approvals for launching its upcoming Neutron medium-lift rocket from LC-1 in the future.
