About Made In Space (Redwire)

Made In Space, Inc. was a pioneering US in-space manufacturing company founded in 2010 by Andrew Rush and colleagues from the NASA Ames Research Center, specializing in additive manufacturing (3D printing), fiber optic cable production, and robotic assembly systems designed for the microgravity environment of space. The company installed the first 3D printer on the International Space Station in 2014 and the Additive Manufacturing Facility (AMF) in 2016 — the first commercial manufacturing plant in space. Made In Space developed the Fiber Optics Production in Space (FOPS) process to manufacture ZBLAN fluoride glass fiber optic cables in microgravity, achieving superior performance to Earth-made equivalents due to the elimination of gravity-induced crystal defects. The company also developed Archinaut, a robotic in-space assembly and manufacturing system capable of constructing large space structures in orbit. Made In Space was acquired by Redwire Space in August 2021 and its operations continue as part of Redwire's in-space manufacturing portfolio, maintaining the vision of manufacturing advanced products in space for use in space and on Earth.
