Ligado Networks

Ligado Networks is a US-based satellite and wireless communications company headquartered in Reston, Virginia, holding valuable L-band satellite spectrum licenses in the United States. Formed from the reorganization of LightSquared and then TerreStar Networks, Ligado has worked for years to deploy a terrestrial nationwide LTE and 5G wireless network using its 1.6 GHz L-band satellite spectrum, complemented by a satellite component for rural and mobile coverage. The company received FCC approval in April 2020 to operate a terrestrial broadband network in the L-band spectrum, a decision contested by GPS industry stakeholders and the US Department of Defense due to potential interference concerns with GPS receivers operating in adjacent spectrum bands. Ligado provides IoT and M2M connectivity services and has partnered with various industry players to leverage its spectrum assets for next-generation satellite and terrestrial services.
