Letara

Letara Ltd. is a Japanese space propulsion startup developing modular hybrid propulsion systems that use plastic as rocket fuel for small satellites and spacecraft. Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Sapporo, Hokkaido, the company was established by hybrid propulsion experts from Hokkaido University's Laboratory of Space Systems and holds proprietary ignition and thrust control technologies that enable scalable plastic-fuelled rocket propulsion. Letara's DARUMA-Micro propulsion units are designed to scale from handheld nanosatellite sizes up to large passenger spacecraft, and the company has earned recognition including the Asia-Oceania prize at S-Booster 2021 and designation as a Hokkaido University Startup in 2022.
