Kenya Space Agency

The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) is Kenya's national space authority, established by the Kenya Space Agency Act of 2017 and headquartered in Nairobi. KSA is responsible for the development, promotion, and regulation of space activities in Kenya, including Earth observation, satellite communications, weather forecasting, and space science. The agency manages Kenya's National Space Centre and operates the Kenya Space Academy for training space professionals. KSA developed and managed the first Kenyan satellite, 1KUNS-PF (Kenya University NanoSatellite – Precursor Flight), a 1U CubeSat built by the University of Nairobi and launched from the International Space Station in 2018. The agency plays a key role in leveraging space data for national development goals including food security monitoring, disaster response, urban planning, and climate resilience, and represents Kenya in international space organizations including the African Union Space Agency (AfriSpace) and UNOOSA.
