About QEYSSat (Quantum Encryption and Science Satellite)

QEYSSat (Quantum Encryption and Science Satellite) is a Canadian government-funded quantum key distribution (QKD) satellite mission managed by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), designed to demonstrate secure quantum encryption over satellite links. The mission will place a quantum optical receiver in LEO to receive quantum-encrypted photon keys transmitted from ground stations, testing the viability of quantum-secure satellite communications for government, banking, and critical infrastructure applications. QEYSSat is developed in partnership with the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) at the University of Waterloo and is part of Canada's national quantum technology strategy. The mission's quantum encryption technology aims to protect communications against future quantum computing-based decryption threats.
