Ecole Polytechnique (Paris)

The École Polytechnique is France's most prestigious grande école, founded during the French Revolution in 1794 to educate France's engineering elite. Located in Palaiseau (Paris-Saclay cluster) and governed under the French Ministry of Defence, it is consistently ranked among the world's top engineering institutions. The school's motto is 'Pour la Patrie, les Sciences et la Gloire' (For the Homeland, Sciences and Glory).

Polytechnique's space research is conducted across several laboratories. The Laboratory of Plasma Physics (LPP) contributes to space plasma physics and heliospheric missions. The LPICM laboratory (Materials, Interfaces and Light in Materials) works on advanced solar cell technologies. The X-Cube CubeSat team enables student experimentation in orbit, while the student Astre balloon-sounding and high-altitude rocketry teams provide hands-on flight experience. Polytechnique is also a founding partner institution of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris alongside four other engineering schools.

Alumni of l'X have been instrumental in founding and leading French aerospace companies and ESA departments. The school's scientific network spans plasma physics, high-energy astrophysics (Astroparticule et Cosmologie laboratory partnership), and materials science — all with significant space applications.
