About Amaya Space

Amaya Space is a South African nanosatellite company established in October 2018 as a commercialization spin-out of the French South African Institute of Technology (FSATI) at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town. The company develops nanosatellite communications solutions and complete CubeSat mission services, with expertise in small satellite radio systems covering VHF through X-band frequencies. Amaya Space builds on CPUT's satellite heritage, which includes ZACUBE-1, launched in November 2013 as Africa's first nanosatellite, and ZACUBE-2, a 3U CubeSat launched in December 2018 carrying a medium-resolution matrix imager and communications subsystems. The company is developing the MDASat constellation, a planned nine-satellite nanosatellite network for South African Maritime Domain Awareness, tracking vessels across South African territorial waters in partnership with the Department of Science and Innovation and the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries under South Africa's Operation Phakisa program. Amaya Space is supported by the Technology Innovation Agency and CPUT program funding.
