Almagest Space

Almagest Space is a Maryland-based NewSpace company founded in 2022 that is building the Space Superhighway — an ultra-high-throughput data relay network in low Earth orbit using E-band (71–76 GHz / 81–86 GHz) and Free Space Optical (FSO) communications. The company aims to deliver secure, low-latency connectivity approaching terrestrial fiber speeds of up to 100 Gbps, removing today's in-space data bottleneck for satellite operators.

Almagest successfully launched ELEVATION-1, the world's first miniaturized space-grade E-band communications payload, on January 14, 2025 aboard SpaceX Transporter-12. Developed in partnership with UK RF/mmWave specialist Filtronic, ELEVATION-1 demonstrates E-band technology and collects atmospheric propagation data. Phase 1 (TWINSTAR) will deploy two FSO-connected surrogate satellites carrying E-band payloads for rapid data downloads. Phase 2 deploys Almagest's own constellation of 100+ LEO satellites.

The company is backed by global experts across the USA, Europe, India, Brazil, and the Middle East, and has been selected as a Hello Tomorrow Deep Tech Pioneer. Use cases include bulk data download for EO/intelligence, terrestrial ultra-high-speed site connectivity, and space cloud transport.
