SKY CANVAS Artificial Shooting Star
Description
ALE's SKY CANVAS creates on-demand artificial shooting star events using small satellites that release 1 cm non-toxic particles from orbit at 60–80 km altitude. The particles ionize during atmospheric re-entry and burn up completely without reaching the ground, visible across a ~200 km radius. ALE-1 (68 kg) launched January 2019 and ALE-2 (75 kg) launched December 2019. The same infrastructure also collects upper-atmosphere data for climate research.
